Kate Baker, Head Trainer and Owner of Barking Mad Dog Training holds a Certificate III in Dog Behaviour & Training with the National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF). The course is a comprehensive dog trainer certification course and is the only nationally accredited course in Australia. The course consists of theory lectures from some of the most prominent industry professionals, specialised practical workshops and a requirement to complete assignments and practical assessments.

After gaining her qualification, Kate was invited to join a training centre run by the lecturers instructing group classes from puppies through to Advanced level. She is experienced in puppy development and can assist in correctly training and socialising your puppy to give him the best start at puppy school or as a private in home consultation. Kate also runs a Puppy Pre-School program at the Diamond Creek Vet Hospital in Melbourne.

We take a holistic approach to training that considers the dog's physical and psychological needs but also includes what the owners need.  It is critical to apply the correct approach for the individual dog and situation and get a positive result that makes a difference.

Kate also holds a current Working with Children card.

Our Story

"The profile in my logo is of my beautiful Rottweiler Java.  Java is the reason I started my studies in dog psychology and behaviour and also why I now work in the industry. Mainly because she challenged me as a young dog and pushed me to learn about dog behavior and to ultimately understand her. It’s amazing how one animal can change the course of your life!

I own two Rottweilers now and Java is a certified therapy dog with Dogs Victoria and we visit schools working with autistic children and work at expo’s such as the Dog Lovers Show and at the Melbourne Royal for the Rottweiler Club of Victoria. Magic is the latest addition to our pack and she to has presented challenges and a great learning opportunity. She is a delight with an amazing will to work and as a hobby I compete in obedience and tracking trials with both of my dogs which is great fun and at times very challenging!"
